So who are we anyway? What's our purpose? How long has it been going? The whole idea for Westcountry Anime came about as the brain-child of Michael Dodd (DoddyUK) after he googled for anime clubs in the South West, only to find that there was absolutely nothing between Land's End and Bath. So he did the only logical thing that came to mind - set up a crappy phpBB board! Around the same time he returned to the Neo Magazine forum after a lengthy absence. It was there that we first made contact and discovered that there were a few users that lived around the Plymouth area, I introduced him to my friend Andrew (a_c_e), and after a few nights out down The Cooperage, much alcohol and plenty of Air Guitar action, we came back round to the idea of an anime club for Plymouth, if not South Devon. Words were spoken (mostly me and Andy kicking Mike up the arse till he did something about this idea), lines of HTML were written, and WA (Westcountry Anime) was born. So what are we doing here? To watch some damn good anime of course! And save people the need to travel to Bath every other weekend to join the lads at Wessex Anime. The current format is to a two-and-a-half hour meeting, taking place on Thursdays, upstairs in the Mutley Crown on Mutley Plain. Series are shown in blocks of two episodes, or in the case of an OVA, the entire OVA is shown during the evening. Also there will be the usual chitter chatter and other crazy fun-stuffs that people can bring if it's of interest or amusement. Now coming up to our third year and our second venue, we now boast a core group of 20 of us (with many more joining us all the time), a very active forum and an ever-increasing presence at several Uk based anime conventions. So there you have it, our brief history and plans for the future. If you are at all interested, then please by all means come along if only to see if it is relevant to your interests. And if you know anyone else that may be interested, please spread the word :) Cheers |
